Developing a Policy Statement
Your organization's drug-free workplace policy is the backbone of your program.
As you move through the Policy Development section of the Program Builder,
you will be asked to choose program and policy options for your organization.
Some statements will be automatically incorporated into your policy as they are standard and recommended. Other statements are entirely
optional, and you may choose to select or omit sections depending on your organization's needs.
For best results, you should build your policy in one session because no information you provide while using the Drug-Free
Workplace Program Builder is stored on any system.
At the completion of the policy section of the Program Builder,
the system will generate a policy statement based on your choices.
You can further modify or personalize this policy.
DOL strongly recommends you have
your policy reviewed by a legal consultant, such as a labor/employment attorney, prior to distribution and implementation.
If you must comply with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, you will want to pay special attention to those elements
that are required by the Act, which the Program Builder will prompt you to include in your program.
These are the minimum elements required to comply, but you are encouraged to explore some of the additional elements
described in the Advisor.
