TRPA ANNOUNCES 2009 OFFICE CLOSURE DATES
Because of budget constraints, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency will close one day per month for six months beginning in January. Closure dates are January 16, February 13, March 20, April 10, May 22, and June 19. The Agency also has closed its North Shore office.

SHOREZONE PROJECT PERMITTING INFORMATION
New ordinances regarding development in Lake Tahoe’s shorezone have been adopted and take effect December 22, 2008. Please be aware that these new ordinances will affect all lakefront (littoral) property or buoy owners.

NEW SHOREZONE PLAN APPROVED
New rules protecting Lake Tahoe's shoreline have been adopted by the TRPA Governing Board. The program and related ordinances took effect December 22.

INCREASED BOAT INSPECTIONS IN EFFECT TO PREVENT INVASIVE MUSSELS
Concern over the threat of destructive mussels brought a unanimous vote by the TRPA Governing Board to require Lake Tahoe boat ramps and launches be closed when invasive species inspectors are not present and to require at-risk vessels be decontaminated.

GOOD NEWS FOR THE LAKE: CLARITY LOSS SLOWING
For the first time in the 40 years that they have been keeping track, researchers say Lake Tahoe's clarity loss is slowing down. This is good news in the effort to save a national treasure.

LIVING WITH FIRE
TRPA worked with the Nevada Fire Safe Council, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, and local fire districts to create a guide to creating defensible space in Lake Tahoe's fragile environment. This is a large file (3.5 MB) and may require long download times.

BMPs and Defensible Space-Investments in Tahoe's Health
It's no mystery that gravel trenches around structures are recommended for both erosion control and defensible space.
