A seagull flies over the California Coastal National Monument which stretches along the entire coast of California and extends 12 miles into the Pacific Ocean.  The Monument includes 20,000 rocks, islands, pinnacles and reefs.

Butte
Butte CreekTwenty five miles Northeast of Chico, the beautiful Forks of Butte Recreation Area has trails through steep pine and fir covered canyons. This area offers free low-impact gold panning. If you are interested in dredging or sluicing in the area, there are permits available for your mining pleasure. Trails follow steep canyon walls; vegetation overstory is primarily mixed Ponderosa Pine, Douglas Fir and Madrone. Discharge of firearms is prohibited in this area, except for shooting legal game during legal hunting seasons.

Horseback riders in the Sacramento River Bend AreaThe Sacramento River Bend Area is a valuable historic and natural resource that presents many recreational and educational opportunities. From the lush riparian areas surrounding the Sacramento River and it's tributaries to the expanse of the rolling hills of the blue oak savannah, the Sacramento River Bend Area offers diverse habitat for bald eagles, osprey, migratory and song birds, deer, and salmon as well as hunting, camping, hiking, boating, picnicking, and wildlife viewing for the recreating public.

Mountain bike riders on the Sacramento River Rail TrailFrom the hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding on the Sacramento River Rail Trail, Mule Mountain Pass Trail, and Clear Creek Greenway to the challenge of the Chappie-Shasta OHV Area, there are endless opportunities to get out and enjoy your public lands around Redding. If you would prefer boating and fishing activities try the cool waters of Keswick Reservoir.

Trinity
Drift boat fisherman on the Trinity RiverPopular with fisherman and pleasure boaters alike,  the Wild and Scenic Trinity River from Lewiston to Pigeon Point is a class I and II segment that flows out of the Trinity and Lewiston Lakes. This clear, cold section of the river is world famous for its fly fishing. If you would like more adrenaline rush, the waters below Pigeon Point rage at class III-V. Relax at one of the campgrounds in the area or if you would like to stay at the river's edge, you can always swim, fish or do a little gold panning.
