BLM Northeast California Resource Advisory Council Meets Sept. 18-19

Members of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Northeast California Resource Advisory Council will hear a comprehensive briefing on cultural resource management, when they meet Thursday and Friday, Sept. 18 and 19, at the BLM Alturas Field Office, 708 West 12th St., Alturas.
 
On Sept. 18, council members will meet at 10 a.m.at the BLM field office and depart immediately for a tour of public lands managed by the BLM Surprise Field Office in northwest Nevada.  Cultural resource issues will be discussed.  Members of the public are welcome in their own high clearance vehicles.
 
On Sept. 19, the council will convene a business meeting at 8 a.m. in the Alturas Field Office conference room. After discussing cultural resource topics, the council will hear a status report on wind energy proposals across the northeast California region, receive an update on the BLM wild horse and burro program and discuss a proposed land exchange.
 
The council will hear public comments at 11 a.m.  Anyone is welcome to address the council.  A time limit could be set to accommodate all speakers.
 
The 15-member advisory council, one of 24 such councils in the Western states, works closely with the BLM’s managers to advise on public land natural resource management.  Members represent a wide range of interests including livestock grazing, the timber industry, recreation, history and archaeology, wild horses and burros, environmental groups, local government, the academic sector and the public at large.
