A team of waterfowl biologists with the U.S. Geological Survey's Western Ecological Research Center, Ducks Unlimited's Institute for Wetland and Waterfowl Research, and California Waterfowl Association, using private grants from the Tuscany Research Institute, is using satellite telemetry to track spring migration of female pintail ducks that winter in the Central Valley of California. We have added pintails in New Mexico and Texas. The New Mexico birds are expected to move south to Mexico for the winter before heading north. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Southwest Region 2, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the Playa Lakes Joint Venture have provided funds to expand the study to wintering pintails in Texas. Visit our website often to find out where the ducks have gone and other related information. |
