Purpose
Determine types of hydrocarbons in PWS area and relate to 1989 & 1964
spills
Summary
Collected hydrocarbon samples at:
1) abandoned? Katalla Oilfield;
2) Port Etches, Ellamar, & Old Valdez
(former port areas serving PWS, but now abandon or defunct);
3) airport runways at Cordova
(main airport and small strip near town) and at Palmer.
4) also obtained splits of samples collected by AK Dept of Envir. Conserv.
from 3 beaches in PWS (Ellrington, Ingot, and Eleanor Islands).
Interviewed experienced PWS charter boat skipper about potential sites
(canneries, mines, hatcheries, and fox farms) of hydrocarbon useage
in PWS to aid in planning Sept.'95 piggyback cruise
on NOAA ship Rainier in PWS.
