Responsibilities |
- Serves as the source for expertise on health and ecological effects and the analysis of exposure
and the risks associated with exposure to criteria and toxic air pollution;
- Assesses risks of air pollution and sets national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS)
and emission standards to protect public health and the environment;
- Supports the integration of strategy development between the criteria and hazardous air
pollutant programs through the sharing of risk assessment expertise and health information across programs;
- Develops new and improves existing exposure and risk models for multi-media, multi-pollutant assessments;
- Participates in relevant Agency research planning, in coordination with the Office of Research
and Development (ORD) and Office of Policy Economics and Innovation (OPEI), in support of the NAAQS,
hazardous air pollutant programs, and economic analysis;
- Analyzes the benefits and costs of improving air quality;
- Assesses policy implications of the linkages between climate change and air pollution;
- Works with International Program Manager and other Divisions to develop cross-office
strategic initiatives to facilitate reductions in international transboundary air pollution;
- Assesses multi-media environmental issues including ecosystem-related activities;
- Coordinates efforts across the office and with other agencies to develop improved indicators
for public health and the environment; and
- Co-chairs team for Clean Air Act Advisory Committee’s Subcommittee on Air Quality Management.
