Volunteers from the local community remove invasive plants in preparation for forest restoration.

There are many opportunities to volunteer at Fort Necessity. Use your skills in historical interpretation, welcoming visitors, maintenance trades or the natural sciences in the stewardship of this special place.

Housing and RV campsite are available for full time volunteers and interns. Training, volunteer uniform shirts and/or living history costumes may be provided. Historic black powder weapons training for living history soldiers in usually held in early June.

Internships

Fort Necessity National Battlefield is offering one paid 10 week internship beginning in June 2009. This internship is offered through the Cultural Resources Diversity Internship Program at the Student Conservation Association. It is available for a college undergraduate student or a graduate student.

Did You Know?
Christoph Jacob Munk and his family emigrated from Germany to Ohio in 1832. They traveled along the National Road. He wrote about rainstorms, a 4 foot rattlesnake, the mountains and sleeping at isolated inns. He also mentions that “it is very troublesome to travel with [a] wife and children.”
