New Loan Program from Ohio Water Development Authority

Ohio Water Development Authority (OWDA) has developed a new 0% interest rate loan program. The loan program is for the planning and design of publicly owned wastewater systems for un-sewered areas that have failing individual home sewage systems. Payments on the design loan can be deferred and wrapped into any construction loan once the project construction is funded.

Currently, many of these unsewered areas are unable to develop detail plans to address unsanitary conditions because they are unable to raise the needed local funds. Without detail plans, the projects are not "ready to proceed" and thus do not receive federal or state assistance monies when they do become available.

A major reason for initiating this program at this time is to allow these projects to be "shovel ready" for potential federal economic stimulus funding. Applicable recipients include all local government agencies, water and sewer districts, and conservancy districts. Ohio EPA will be available to provide planning feedback and advice to loan recipients.

The deadline for applications is July 15, 2009. More information is available on the OWDA Web page.

Ohio EPA Posts 2009 Fish Advisory Updates

March 4, 2009

Ohio EPA has released fish consumption advisory updates for the 2009 fishing season. Advisories are relaxed for one species in two locations and more strict for seven species in 10 waterways.

A statewide advisory of one meal per week for all fish not otherwise specified remains in place due to mercury. Go here for more information.

FFY 2010 Section 319 Grants

Are tight budgets cramping your environmental agenda? Is your vision for improving river conditions and water quality within your community being tarnished by a lack of funding? Ohio EPA may be able to help. Local stream restoration and water quality projects targeted at nonpoint source pollution may qualify for up to $400,000 in grant funding.

Ohio EPA’s 319 grant program provides both a simplified application and a streamlined grant reporting process that allows you to spend more time where it counts - working on restoration. Up to $400,000 or 60 percent of a project’s cost may be funded using a 319 grant.

More information is on the 319 Grant Program Documents page.
