Metop-B spacecraft illustration over the Earth

MetOp-C is the next (and last) in a series of three weather satellites from the ESA & EUMETSAT. It is the latest mission in a series of European polar orbiting satellites.

Under Interagency agreements with NOAA, NASA (GSFC) is providing five POES heritage instruments AMSU-1, AMSU-2, AVHRR/3 and SEM-2 in support of the MetOp C Mission.

April 15-19, 2013 → Astrium, Friedrichshafen activities - AMSU-A1 and A2 thermal blanket rework, AVHRR and SEM GSE integration into the Astrium ground system, AVHRR packing for shipment to ITT Exelis for recalibration

October 2017 → MetOp-C Launch - (NET)

The POES project instruments provide critical operational climate data that is integrated into the weather prediction model used in developing current and extended weather forecasts.

MetOp-B Launches with NASA Goddard-Developed Instruments

09.17.12 - A new European meteorological satellite soared into space today, Sept. 17, with five environmental instruments aboard that were developed by the Polar Operational Environmental Satellites (POES) Project at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. These instruments were developed under a reimbursable agreement with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). + Go to Feature
