International Education Week 2001
November 12 16, 2001
A partnership between the U.S. Department of
Education
and the U.S. Department of State
Update
on International Education Week 2001
We thank all who
participated in International Education Week 2001 for helping draw
attention to the role of international education in creating understanding
and promoting tolerance. Over 50 U.S. embassies abroad and hundreds
of educational institutions and NGOs have sent in feedback
about activities they sponsored in this context. As President Bush
noted in his November 13 message in observance of International Education
Week, "The relationships that are formed between individuals
from different countries, as part of international education programs
and exchanges, can...foster goodwill that develops into vibrant, mutually
beneficial partnerships among nations." We look forward to building
on this year's successes and to commemorating the ideals of international
education and exchange with you again next year. |
International Education Week provides an opportunity to promote and celebrate
the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This initiative
is part of our effort to encourage policies and programs that prepare
Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad
to study in the United States.
We welcome the participation of all individuals and institutions engaged
in international education and exchange, including schools, colleges and
universities, embassies, international organizations, businesses, and
associations.
