These Swainson's Hawks died by the thousands in Argentina due to pesticide ingestion
  • Approximately 67 million birds die each year from pesticide poisoning.

  • Effects on fish and wildlife that have been noted with some chemicals currently registered for use in the United States include: death due to acute poisoning, reproductive, developmental, and behavioral problems; immune system dysfunction; and premature death.

  • Fish and wildlife that are already stressed by loss of habitat, reduced habitat quality, disease, and other environmental factors may be more susceptible to the adverse effects of contaminants. In essence, contaminants can be the “straw that broke the camel’s back.”
