Africa Regional Higher Education Summit

October 21 - 24, 2008
Serena Hotel
Kigali, Rwanda

Strengthening Africa's Human and Institutional Capacity
for Prosperity and Global Competitiveness

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will host an invitation-only Africa Regional Higher Education Summit in Kigali, Rwanda, on October 21 through October 24, 2008. This event will build on the discussions and work that began during the Higher Education Summit for Global Development held at the U.S. Department of State in April 2008. The Africa Summit will focus on the role of higher education institutions in Africa’s economic growth and global competitiveness.

U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings and USAID Administrator and U.S. Director of Foreign Assistance Henrietta H. Fore will speak at the Summit. Other participants include American and African University Presidents and other educational institute representatives, foundation leaders, and corporate executives. With collaboration between the public and private sectors, the Africa Summit aims to generate new ideas on capacity building and development in Africa, help meet some of the challenges facing the higher education community in Africa, foster mutually beneficial partnerships among participating organizations, and highlight best practices within the higher education community.
