As a Federal safety regulatory agency, the FRA is continually collecting and analyzing data, conducting research, and producing reports dealing with the railroad environment. Some publications are mandated by Congress, others are the product of joint ventures between different levels of government (e.g., Federal and State), and still others may be the result of earlier safety initiatives or research efforts.

This site offers links on the left-hand side of the page to many of FRA’s safety-related studies and reports. Occasionally, a publication will be listed under more than one category. For example, a highway-rail grade crossing study mandated by Congress may be shown under both Reports to Congress and Grade Crossing . Also, earlier drafts of reports or predecessor studies may be located under the Archive section.

While this site is not all-inclusive, it does provide a cross-section of FRA’s important safety-related publications.
