- Communities in 43 states, 2 Tribal Nations and 2 territories will share over $74 million in EPA Brownfields grants.
These communities will share over $74 million in EPA Brownfields grants to help revitalize former industrial and commercial sites, turning them from problem properties to productive community use. Since the beginning of the Brownfields program, EPA has awarded 1255 assessment grants totaling $298.6 million, 230 revolving loan fund grants totaling $217.7 million, and 426 cleanup grants totaling $78.7 million.

- Fiscal Year 2008 Brownfields Job Training Grants Announcement.
Thirteen communities in 10 states will share more than $2.5 million in job training grants geared toward cleaning up contaminated properties and turning them into productive community assets. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, under its Brownfields Initiative, is awarding grants of up to $200,000 each to non-profit organizations, local governments, a university, and a tribe. The grants will teach environmental assessment and cleanup job skills to individuals living in low-income areas near brownfields sites in Ala., Calif., La., Mass., N.C., Nev., N.Y., Okla., Pa., and Wash.

FY 2007 Information
- Communities in 38 states, 5 Tribal Nations and 2 territories will share $70.7 million in EPA Brownfields grants.
These communities will share $70.7 million in EPA Brownfields grants to help revitalize former industrial and commercial sites, turning them from problem properties to productive community use. Since the beginning of the Brownfields program, EPA has awarded 1067 assessment grants totaling $262 million, 217 revolving loan fund grants totaling $201.7 million, and 336 cleanup grants totaling $61.3 million.

Job Training Grants
On November 13, 2006, the Environmental Protection Agency announced the selection of 12 communities to share a total of $2.34 million in brownfields job training grants. Grants of up to $200,000 each will go to non-profit organizations and local governments. This new round of Brownfields Job Training Grants will teach environmental-cleanup job skills to individuals living in low income areas near brownfields sites in 10 states.- EPA News Release

Share $69.9 Million in Brownfields Grants
These communities will share $69.9 million in EPA Brownfields grants to help revitalize former industrial and commercial sites, turning them from problem properties to productive community use. Since the beginning of the Brownfields program, EPA has awarded 883 assessment grants totaling $225.4 million, 202 revolving loan fund grants totaling $186.7 million, and 238 cleanup grants totaling $42.7 million.

The EPA today announced the selection of twelve communities to share a total of $2 million in brownfields job training grants. Grants of up to $200,000 each will go to non-profit organizations, educational institutions, community colleges, tribes, and state and local governments. This new round of Brownfields Job Training Grants will teach environmental-cleanup job skills to individuals living in low income areas near Brownfields sites in 11 states (Connecticut, Delaware, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Washington, and West Virginia).

- $76.7 Million in Brownfield Grants Announced
Communities in 44 states will share more than $76 million in U.S. Environmental Protection Agency brownfields grants to help revitalize former industrial and commercial sites, transforming them from problem properties into community assets. "The Brownfields Program puts both property and people back to work," EPA Administrator Steve Johnson said. "These grants will help communities across America convert eyesores into engines of economic rebirth."

Brownfields Training, Research and Technical Assistance Grants
Announced Totaling $1.4 Million.
EPA's Office of Brownfields Cleanup and Redevelopment names six organizations as recipients of a combined $1.4 million in Brownfields Training, Research and Technical Assistance Grants. The grants announced provide research, training and technical assistance to enable communities to stimulate economic and beneficial uses of brownfields. Funding for the brownfields training, research, and technical assistance grants and cooperative agreements is authorized under §104(k)(6) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980, as amended, (CERCLA or Superfund), 42 U.S.C. 9604(k)(6).

FUNDING FOR JOB TRAINING
EPA has selected 11 supplemental pilot grants totaling $675,000 under the Brownfields Job Training and Development Demonstration Pilots. These are the second round of supplemental Brownfields job training pilot grants to be awarded (the first round was in May). In communities impacted by Brownfields, project officials will use the supplemental funding to continue their efforts to train residents in procedures for the handling and removal of hazardous substances.- EPA Press Advisory
