(April 2, 2009) The DORS Office for Blindness and Vision Services and the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind (CLB) will work together to identify veterans who are blind or visually impaired and assist them with their employment needs.

Public Radio Interview Paints Picture of Assistive Technology

(February 26, 2009) Public Radio WYPR recently interviewed Steven Frank, a DORS consumer who works with DORS Rehabilitation Teacher Marilynn Ward-Tluszcz (Frederick). Mr. Frank has Usher syndrome, which has resulted in deafness and blindness. The radio interview provides insight into life as an individual with both vision and hearing loss. It also vividly describes the assistive technology that Mr. Frank uses to communicate.

Volunteer Medical Engineers Looking for Wishful Thinking

(February 23, 2009) The Volunteers for Medical Engineering (VME), a non-profit organization of skilled engineers who devise specialized equipment for people with disabilities, is seeking applications for their most current outreach project called "What I Wish for My Child.” Families of children with disabilities, ages 2 – 21 are eligible for consideration.

A Small Tool is a Big Lifesaver, says WTC Medical Staff

(January 21, 2009) A hand-held telescopic mirror that costs less than $20 can help people with Diabetes spot early signs of foot ulcers, says Dr. Mark Young, a Workforce & Technology Center (WTC) physiatrist. The WTC recently acquired 100 mirrors as a donation from Eli Lilly & Company. The staff will give the mirrors to program participants who need them.
