Upper and Lower Table Rocks

Two of the most prominent topographic features in the Rogue Valley are Upper and Lower Table Rocks. These mesa buttes rise immediately above the north bank of the Rogue River in southwestern Oregon, between Sams Valley and Central Point.

The Table Rocks were designataed in 1984 as an Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) to protect special plants and animal species, unique geologic and scenic values, and education opportunities. more>>

Geology

These unique landmarks provide amazing vistas of the surrounding young volcanic Cascade Range to the east and the geologically complex Siskiyou Mountains to the south and west. more >>

Plants

The remarkable diversity of the Table Rocks includes a spectacular wildflower display of over 75 species from March until June. Wildflower species include the dwarf wooly meadowfoam (Limnanthes floccosa ssp. pumila) which grows nowhere else on Earth but on the top of both Table Rocks. more >>

Wildlife

A large variety of wildlife resides at the Upper and Lower Table Rocks. The wildlife section contains images and descriptions of a number of different birds, mammals, and reptiles that all make their home on the Table Rocks. more >>

Environmental Education

Both Table Rocks have been providing outstanding opportunities for environmental education. The two Table Rocks are the most popular hiking destination in the Rogue Valley with over 10,000 visitors each year. more >>

Cultural History

Table Rocks, historically and presently, play an important role in southwestern Oregon. Being prominent landmarks in our region, the Table Rocks were an important gathering place for settlers along the Oregon-California Trail. Native Americans, especially the Takelma people, place significant cultural value on the Table Rocks. more >>
