WIBC Radio Receives NWS Public Service Award
On Friday afternoon, August 1, 2008, National Weather Service Indianapolis Meteorologist-in-Charge Daniel McCarthy, along with staff members from NWS Indianapolis, presented a National Weather Service Public Service Award to WIBC Radio at their studios on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis. Accepting on behalf of WIBC was Senior Producer and longtime severe weather anchor Steve Simpson.

According to Mr. McCarthy, “partnership [between WIBC and NWS Indianapolis] in keeping the rapid flow of information contributed to the protection of lives across a large part of Central Indiana. WIBC was a consistent and thorough source of information providing minute-by-minute updates from callers, emergency management officials, and reporters, assisting the National Weather Service in its mission of protecting life and property.
The National Weather Service relies on many dissemination venues to achieve the widest possible distribution of severe and hazardous weather information, including local emergency officials, the internet (at www.weather.gov), and especially NOAA Weather Radio All-Hazards. The media plays an exceptionally vital role in this process as well, as they often become the face and the voice of the hazardous weather warning system during dangerous weather.
NWS Indianapolis would like to thank not just WIBC, but all of our partners in the hazardous weather warning process, from the media, to emergency officials, amateur radio operators, storm spotters, and the general public, for your hard work and the vital information you provide that allows us to do our jobs effectively.
