This report summarizes activities U.S. Government (USG) agencies, including USAID, are undertaking together to improve programming for highly vulnerable children. In 2007–2008, the USG spent in excess of $5.9 billion on foreign assistance programs to improve the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children and their families. USAID has dedicated significant time and human resources to this effort.

Health research is integral to USAID’s ability to achieve its health and development objectives worldwide. In 2006, USAID outlined its five-year health research strategy. With this report, USAID provides an update on this strategy for using research funds to stimulate the development and introduction of key products through 2010. Significant progress has been made in many areas, influencing policies and programming on the ground in real time.

Funded by USAID and published by the Health Information and Publications Network (HIPNET), the guide presents 29 indicators that are grouped into four categories measuring reach, usefulness, use, and collaboration/capacity building. It brings together monitoring and evaluating information products and services from dozens of health organizations that are members of the HIPNET community of practice.

Immunization Essentials: A Practical Field Guide
Available in English (CD-ROM or PDF; hardcopy currently unavailable), French (hardcopy, CD-ROM, or PDF), and Spanish (PDF only), this publication is produced by USAID and provides technically and operationally sound information for immunization program managers in developing countries and for people who support them, particularly field staff of donor agencies.
