Making Home Affordable Program: FHA’s Home Affordable Modification Loss Mitigation Option

On May 20, 2009, the President signed the “Helping Families Save Their Homes Act of 2009.” This new law provides the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) with additional loss mitigation authority to assist FHA mortgagors under the Making Home Affordable Program (MHA). The MHA Program is designed to help homeowners retain their homes and to prevent the destructive impact of foreclosures on families and communities. DAVID STEVENS SWORN IN AS HUD ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR HOUSING AND FHA COMMISSIONER

WASHINGTON - David Stevens was sworn in today as Assistant Secretary for Housing and Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Commissioner at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Stevens was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on July 10, 2009.

The banking business is in a big enough mess...why do you think you should be able to use $ you don't have yet for a down payment,duh!

They can already borrow it on a note to pay back once they've filed amended 08 or newly filed 09 returns anyhow... I'm a big proponent of folks havings some stake in their purchase and if the money is just handed to them, it can lead to future loss. On the flip side; however there are many borrowers I've worked with that have used the tax credit for upgrades, or simply a roughly $670 pmt reduction for a year! I'm mixed about the credit, despite the cost of it!
