ATF is responsible for administering the enforcing the federal arson and explosives laws, protecting the public from criminal acts involving fire and explosives. The Atlanta Field Division has a group of agents dedicated to conducting arson and explosives investigations. Agents with additional expertise in these areas are also strategically located throughout the State. ATF industry operations investigators also work to prevent the criminal misuse of explosives in Georgia through regulating the explosives industry, to ensure safe and secure storage and handling of explosives.

JASON SOUTH, 28, of Newnan and Roswell, Georgia, was found guilty by a jury today in federal district court on charges of possession of firearms by a convicted felon; possession of a sawed-off shotgun; possession, manufacturing, and transferring improvised explosive pipe bombs; and distribution of methamphetamine. CHRISTOPHER MOCK, 45, of Atlanta, Georgia, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison today by United States District Judge Clarence Cooper on multiple charges of arson. A federal jury convicted MOCK, a former Chatham County (GA) Police Officer, on fourteen counts of arson on July 7, 2006. More »
