The Secretary of Labor's Advisory Council on Employee
Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans and its work groups will hold public meetings
June 13-14 at the U. S. Department of Labor (Frances Perkins Building), 200
Constitution Ave., N. W., Washington, D. C.
On Tuesday, June 13 the pension education and real estate
investment work groups will meet from 9:30 a.m. until noon and 1 until 3:30
p.m., respectively, in Room S-3215 A-B. The pension education work group will
receive testimony on the types of educational information needed and the
individual retirement needs of employees. The real estate investment work group
will address questions on:
- the adequacy of the current regulatory oversight of real estate
investment advisors;
- whether additional regulation is needed beyond the Securities and
Exchange Commission's registration guidelines;
- whether self-regulation of real estate investment advisors is
appropriate.
On Wednesday June 14 from 9:30 a.m. until noon the defined
contribution adequacy work group will meet in S-3215 A-B to address what
constitutes an adequate retirement income, the studies done on defined
contribution research and whether further research is needed.
Following the Wednesday meeting of the defined
contribution adequacy work group, the full council will meet at 1 p.m. in Room
S-2508 to receive status reports of the council's work groups and to invite
public comment on any aspect of the administration of ERISA.
Individuals or organizations wishing to address the
council should submit a written request before June 8 to Linda R. Jackson,
acting executive secretary, ERISA Advisory Council, U. S. Department of Labor,
Room N5677, 200 Constitution Ave., N. W., Washington, D.C. Oral presentations
are limited to 10 minutes, but witnesses may submit an extended statement for
the record.
Members of the public who do not want to testify may
submit 20 copies of their statement to the above address.
The advisory council is a bipartisan group of 15 members
appointed by the Secretary of Labor to represent a wide range of interest in
the employee benefits area. The council advises and makes recommendations to
the Secretary of Labor on the administration of ERISA.
