Stitched from the Soul: Slave Quilts from the Antebellum South by Gladys-Marie Fry. (University of North Carolina Press, $27.50) Filled with dozens of color photos, this book examines quilts and quilters from the era of slavery.

Let's Quilt Our African American heritage & Stuff It Topographically by Carole Marsh. (Gallopade International, $7.95) An excellent book aimed at teaching quilting to children.

Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site handbook

In 2003, the association developed the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site handbook. The handbook explains the events that led up to the Brown v. Board of Education case, as well as the Civil Rights Movement that happened as a result of the historic ruling. This handbook may be purchased locally at the bookstore or online from the Western National Parks Association.

Western National Parks Association

Western National Parks Association is a nonprofit cooperating association of the National Park Service. Headquartered in Tucson, Arizona, the association was founded in 1938 as the Southwest Monuments Association to support the interpretive activities of the National Park Service.

Today, Western National Parks Association operates bookstores at sixty-five National Park Service sites throughout the western United States, plus an online store with more than 600 educational products. In addition to developing publications, the association supports park research and helps fund programs that make park visits more meaningful. One of the association's founding goals was to create and publish park-related information unavailable elsewhere.
