Security DivisionThe Office of Law Enforcement, Security & Emergency Management is entrusted with managing the Department's homeland security programs designed to protect Department personnel, visitors, facilities, information, critical infrastructure, and key resources. Its responsibilities in this area include: (1) coordinating the development and/or revision of policies, procedures, and standards for the Department’s Security programs including Personnel Security and Suitability, National Security Information, Industrial Security, and Physical Security; (2) coordinating and overseeing policies within the Department directed at the protection of critical infrastructure and key resources which, if damaged or destroyed, could result in significant loss of life, as well as adversely impact the economy and psyche of the United States; (3) representing the department and acting as liaison with other federal, state and local agencies on a full range of issues relating to security; (4) conducting and coordinating policy compliance reviews in support of the Department’s oversight role in these areas; (5) providing effective oversight and supervision during Departmental responses to serious incidents, emergency situations and preparations for major events as appropriate.
