METH DEALER SENTENCEDTO 13 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON

April 14, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STEPHEN JOHN DAIGLE, JR., age 37, a resident of Gonzales, Louisiana, was sentenced today in federal court to thirteen (13) years (156 months) imprisonment for possession with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine in the Houma area, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten today. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Zainey imposed ten (10) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release

According to court documents, DAIGLE previously pled guilty admitting that on September 2, 2006, pursuant to information from a confidential source, Louisiana State Police encountered DAIGLE as he drove into a parking lot in Houma, Louisiana. DAIGLE admitted that he was carrying methamphetamine and consented to a search of his vehicle. The search of DAIGLE’s vehicle revealed a paper bag on the floorboard that contained a plastic bag of methamphetamine, as well as another paper bag by the fuse box containing two plastic bags of methamphetamine.

In exchange for his plea, the government did not seek an enhancement based on DAIGLE’s prior two drug convictions, which would have resulted in a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment. After sentencing, DAIGLE was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service to begin his term of imprisonment.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of U. S. Immigration, Customs, and Enforcement, along with officers of the Louisiana State Police. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin G. Boitmann.
