NEW ORLEANS MAN CHARGED WITH VIOLATING FEDERAL DRUG LAWS AND ATTEMPTED ARSON

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STEVE WILSON, aka Steven Wilson, aka Stephen Wilson, age 54, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was charged by a Federal Grand Jury today in a four count indictment with several violations of the Federal Controlled Substances Act as well as attempted arson, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the indictment, from September, 2008 until January 23, 2009, WILSON is charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and marijuana as well as two counts of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana. Additionally, the indictment alleges that on January 23, 2009, WILSON attempted to damage or destroy by means fire the 504 Urban Trading Company located in the 8100 block of Oleander Street in New Orleans.

If convicted, WILSON faces a maximum sentence of twenty (20) years in prison, $1,000,000 in fines, and three (3) years of supervised release as to each drug offense. If convicted of the attempted arson, the defendant faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five (5) years and a maximum of twenty (20) years in prison, $250,000.00 in fines, and three (3) years of supervised release.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the Indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by Special Agents of the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and officers of the New Orleans Police Department. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U. S. Attorney Maurice E. Landrieu, Jr.
