HARTFORD BUSINESS OWNER INVOLVED IN COCAINE TRANSACTION IS SENTENCED TO 70 MONTHS

Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that DANIEL GARCIA, 47, of Pershing Avenue, New Britain was sentenced today by Senior United States District Judge Alan H. Nevas in Bridgeport to 70 months of imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release.  On May 28, 2008, GARCIA pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.  GARCIA formerly operated D&G Auto in Hartford.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on August 22, 2007, GARCIA was arrested after the FBI seized approximately one kilogram of cocaine from GARCIA’s Jaguar.  GARCIA had been in the process of attempting to sell the kilogram of cocaine when law enforcement officers approached his vehicle.  At the time of the arrest, GARCIA tried to escape by driving the vehicle out of a narrow driveway adjacent to a barber shop at 246 South Street in Hartford.  GARCIA struck the building, rammed another vehicle and then a law enforcement vehicle, which blocked his progress.

GARCIA has been detained in federal custody since his arrest.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Hartford Police Department.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert M. Spector.
