In accordance with 36 CFR 13.1160(b), the Superintendent of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve will make an annual determination of the following year’s cruise ship day use quota for Glacier Bay. Cherry Payne has proposed that the quota remain unchanged from the 2007 and 2008 season. Currently, the quota for the June, July, and August summer season is set at 153 use days and the quota for the May and September shoulder season is set at 92 use days.

Maintaining the seasonal use day quota at these levels will allow the results of ongoing research, monitoring, and baseline data collection to be assessed before any increases take place.

The NPS is soliciting public comment on the proposed day use quota. Comments will be accepted until close of business on October 20, 2008. You may submit comments using the NPS Planning, Environment, and Public Comment website at:

Did You Know?
The gritty, silica-rich stems of horsetails were traditionally used for cleaning and some would say rival the finest of steel wools.
