STATEMENT BY CHAIRMAN HUNDT ON DESIGNATION OF |
||
I'm delighted the President has designated Bill Kennard to serve as Chairman of the
Federal Communications Commission. As the FCC's General Counsel, Bill has managed
successfully the most difficult and complex cases this agency has ever encountered. At the
same time, Bill has dramatically improved the agency's win record in the Court of Appeals.
Bill has a well deserved reputation throughout the Communications and public interest
community for fairness and impartiality. I know that this agency and the country will be well
served by his leadership.
I am also pleased by the nomination of Michael Powell to serve as a Commissioner.
Michael's experience as Chief of Staff in the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice
will be invaluable to the Commission as it confronts many difficult issues related to bringing
competition to the telecommunications market.
It is vital at this time that the Commission have a full complement of Commissioners.
These nominees possess the experience and knowledge to ensure that the public interest is
served and that the promises of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 are delivered to
consumers. I am pleased that the Administration is moving forward to put a new team in
place.
