News From the Field Brown Anthropologist Examines Stigma of Infertility in Nigeria

New research by a Brown University anthropologist investigates the cultural context and consequences of infertility within two high-fertility populations in Nigeria. The findings, published this month in Social Science & Medicine, suggest that motherhood defines a woman's treatment in her community, thus, childless women are disadvantaged both economically and in terms of one's identity and self-respect.
