| | | On Saturday, September 27, 2008, more than 10,000 BLM volunteers stepped up and set to work improving our public lands. For these service-minded individuals and groups, the annual celebration of National Public Lands Day (NPLD)—the nation’s premier workday on behalf of our nation’s public lands—offered a perfect opportunity to support America by enhancing its natural and cultural resources. more |

| | | In 2006, BLM and the non-profit Public Lands Foundation (PLF) agreed to join forces to perform data collection in support of BLM decision-making. Many PLF members are retired BLM managers who are experienced in BLM-approved techniques for monitoring/inventorying wildlife habitat, vegetation communities, weed populations/ distribution, and riparian functionality. BLM Field Office resource specialists prescribe the methods, timing, and location of monitoring efforts, and provide transportation and training, as necessary, for PLF volunteers. Not only do PLF volunteers share their expertise with BLM managers, they also provide guidance to other volunteers. For reports on projects being conducted as part of this program, click here. |
