The Fire Center has initial attack responsibilities for all of Eastern Idaho from Montana to Utah and Wyoming to Craters of the Moon. This includes 7.2 million acres of BLM, Forest Service, Fish and Wildlife, Idaho National Laboratory, State and Reservation lands. Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center (EIIFC) averages 150 fires a year with an average of 54,000 acres burned a year. Busy years such as 2000 and 2006 you could see anywhere from 310,000 acres burned and up to 260 fires.

EIIFC has 173 firefighters staffing 29 engines, 2 water tenders, 2 dozers, 1 Interagency Hotshot crew, 2 helicopters and 1 20-person handcrew. Also included at EIIFC is the Pocatello Tanker Base with an air attack platform.

Firefighters who fight fires in Eastern Idaho are generally stationed and work in the area. Our firefighters also assist cooperating fire departments with wildfires, which makes Eastern Idaho an interagency group working together for the same purpose. Firefighters, during the busy time of the summer, can also travel from other states and areas of Idaho to assist EIIFC.

EIIFC is also very strong in many management programs, including Wildland Fire Use, prescribed fire, fuels reduction, suppression, aviation, fire prevention, dispatch, fire information, safety, training, recruitment and many other programs.

The purpose of this web site is to provide a broad range of information to the general public, news media, fire departments and agency personnel.
