EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION PROCEDURES
REMAIN VIGILANT-THE THREAT IS NOT OVER
The residents located near the burnt slope areas are highly encouraged to
remain vigilant throughout the rainy season. The danger of debris and mudflows
is not over and will continue to threaten neighborhoods for the next three to
five years. City and State erosion control measures (k-rail, sandbags, etc.)
will remain in place until it can be determined that the danger is over. In
addition, residents with debris and mudflow control measures such as sandbags
are reminded to leave these measures in place. While the City and the Orange
County Fire Authority continue to monitor the weather and the hillsides, residents
should always be prepared to evacuate at a moments notice during rainy weather.
ALERTOC (Often known as Reverse 9-1-1)
AlertOC is a mass notification system designed to keep Orange County residents
and businesses informed of emergencies and certain community events. By registering
with AlertOC, time-sensitive voice messages from the County or City in which
you live or work may be sent to your home, cell or business phone. Text messages
may also be sent to cell phones, e-mail accounts and hearing impaired receiving
devices. It is also commonly called Reverse 9-1-1, but this a registered
trademark.
To sign up for AlertOC, go to www.alertoc.com
and you will see a map of Orange County. Simply click on the City of Yorba Linda.
Once you are on the Yorba Linda screen, click on the appropriate option and
then fill out the required information. Once you have submitted the information,
the City and County will be better able to get the word out to you in an emergency.
The City encourages all of our residents to register!
NEW PUBLIC WORKS HOTLINE
The Yorba Linda Public Works Department has established a new information hotline
for residents with questions about potential mud and debris flows. The number
is (714) 961-7114. Public Works staff will be responding to messages left on
this line as soon as possible.

CALL FOR DONATIONS: MORE GIFT CARDS FOR YORBA LINDA FIRE
VICTIMS NEEDED
On behalf of the City of Yorba Linda, the Yorba Linda Public Library is continuing
to coordinate the collection and distribution of gift cards for Yorba Linda
victims of the recent fire. There are still a few fire-affected families left
to help, but more donations of gift cards are needed. Samples of gift cards
that seem to be the most helpful include those for grocery stores, restaurants
and general merchandise stores like Target.
Donations of gift cards may be dropped off at the Yorba Linda Public Librarys
Adult Services Desk, 18181 Imperial Highway, Yorba Linda 92886. Library staff
will ensure that the gift cards are distributed to Yorba Linda fire victims
in limited allotments per household by verifying addresses from the Orange County
Fire Authoritys damage assessment report.
For more information regarding donations, call the Librarys Adult Services
Desk at 714-777-2873 ext. 6. Hours of Library operation are: Monday through
Thursday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
GIFT CARD DONATIONS FOR YORBA LINDA FIRE VICTIMS
Due to the closure of the Disaster Relief Center, the Library is now accepting
and disseminating donations of gift cards for Yorba Linda victims of the recent
fire. Currently, gift cards are the only donations the City is accepting for
fire victims because they are what best meet the varying needs of fire-affected
families at this time. Donations of gift cards may be dropped off at the Yorba
Linda Public Library (18181 Imperial Highway), and Library staff will ensure
that the gift cards are distributed to Yorba Linda fire victims only. Fire victims
may pick up gift cards by presenting identification. Library staff will verify
the address based on the Orange County Fire Authoritys damage assessment
report. For more information regarding donations, call the Librarys Adult
Services Desk at 714-777-2873 ext. 6.
If you have any donations other than a gift card (clothes, furniture etc.),

FEDERAL DISASTER DECLARATION APPROVED
On 11/18/08, the President declared a Major Disaster in the counties of Los
Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and Santa Barbara for the fires beginning on 11/13/08,
providing individual assistance, public assistance (debris removal and emergency
protective measures), and hazard mitigation. The declaration does not cover
permanent repair costs for damaged infrastructure. However, additional designations
may be made upon further evaluation.
BEWARE OF UNLICENSED CONTRACTORS!
Beware of unlicensed and/or fraudulent contractors, architects, engineers or
insurance brokers.
The CA Department of Insurance Law Enforcement Division will begin passing
out information packets in the fire-affected areas starting today, November
19, 2008. Their primary purpose will be to hand out the flyers to help prevent
fire victims become further victimized by fraudulent or unlicensed contractors.
Later, they will begin driving through the affected areas looking for anyone
performing construction and verifying they have a license, as it is illegal
for an unlicensed contractor to be in a disaster area.
More information can be found at the Department
of Insurance website or by calling 1-800-927-HELP (4357)
Please be assured that the City will also be checking on their credentials/certifications
during the building permit process.
