SNA and the NIPAs

The System of National Accounts (SNA) is an internationally accepted set of guidelines for the compilation of national accounts. Once a year, BEA prepares estimates on an SNA basis in response to a questionnaire used by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).  Based on estimates provided in the July 31, 2008 Annual Revision of the National Income and Product Accounts, these estimates improve the comparability of U.S. national accounts statistics with those of other countries and are published by international organizations.

Cautionary note on the use of SNA-based tables -- The tables and estimates provided on this page are based on the SNA standards. Accordingly, some estimates will differ from the official NIPA estimates published by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) on this website www.bea.gov and in the Survey of Current Business. For further information on the differences between the SNA and the NIPAs, see the Survey of Current Business article referenced below.
