Valdez/Cordova On Fast-Track For FEMA Grant
$1.8 Million Buy-Out for High Hazard Avalanche Properties

CORDOVA, Alaska -- On Monday, June 19, 2000 FEMA Regional Director David L. de Courcy will join with Alaska Department of Military and Veteran Affairs Commissioner Major General Phil Oates to announce the approval of almost $2 million in Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funds to relocate homes and acquire property in high hazard avalanche zones in Valdez and Cordova. The projects are estimated at $1.8 million, with FEMA funding 75 percent, and the State of Alaska providing the 25 percent non-federal match, as part of the state's disaster relief effort.
