Special Census Studies

The Census of Agriculture is conducted once every five years to collect data on all commodities produced in the United States. as well as detailed information on expenses, income, and operator characteristics. Following the Census, special studies are conducted to gather more information on selected areas of interest. Such studies include:

Census of Aquaculture - Data about the U.S. aquaculture sector at the national and state levels.
Census of Horticultural Specialties - Data at national and state levels on number and kinds of horticultural specialty operations, value of sales, and types of products.
Farm and Ranch Irrigation Survey - Data on irrigation and water use across the agricultural industry at national, state, and water resources area levels.
Local Food Marketing Practices Survey - Data on the production and marketing of locally and regionally produced agricultural food products from farmers.
On-Farm Renewable Energy Production Survey - An analysis of on-farm renewable energy production in the United States.
Organic Survey - An analysis of U.S. organic production, marketing, and economics.
Tenure, Ownership, and Transition of Agricultural Land (TOTAL) - A comprehensive study of all landlords of agricultural land.
