Civil Justice Reform
ACA believes that civil justice reform is needed to restore balance, fairness, and predictability to our judicial system.
ACA’s advocacy in this arena centers around two efforts: the Amicus Program, through which ACA chooses select prominent cases each year in which it files an amicus, or “friend of the court,” brief as a show of support for issues that can adversely impact the industry; and the Minimum Diversity Project, dedicated to ensuring fair and expeditious access to federal courts for resolving interstate (diversity) disputes. For the latter, ACA is urging Congress to make minimum diversity a requirement for diversity jurisdiction in federal court, instead of the current requirement that all parties to a suit be from different states.
