2008 Census Dress Rehearsal Operational Photos

The 2008 Census Dress Rehearsal is being conducted in San Joaquin County, Calif., and in nine counties around Fayetteville, N.C. The U.S. Census Bureau is offering almost 5,000 temporary jobs to area residents. The jobs, lasting about five to 10 weeks, offer flexible hours, competitive wages and are ideal for students, retirees and others seeking part-time work.

The U.S. Census Bureau is using hand-held computers to update the address list for the 2008 Census Dress Rehearsal. Locally hired census workers will visit every housing unit to make sure it is on the Census Bureau's address list and will receive a census dress rehearsal questionnaire in March 2008.   To help ensure the accuracy of the census and improve its efficiency, the Census Bureau has moved away from using pencil and paper to update its address lists and maps. Now, census workers will update the information electronically, using hand-held computers and coordinates from the Global Positioning System (GPS).
