Directions to Stewart's Horse Camp
Allow 10 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 3.3 miles (5.3 km) south to the Stewart's Horse Camp driveway.
  • Turn right and follow the dirt driveway about 0.25 miles (0.4 km) to the Stewart's Horse Camp.

Directions to Five Brooks Trailhead and Stables
Allow 10 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 3.6 miles (5.8 km) south to the Five Brooks driveway.
  • Turn right and follow the dirt driveway 0.25 miles (0.4 km) to the Five Brooks parking lot.

Note: Be careful returning to Highway 1. The driveway is located between a couple blind curves.

Directions to Randall Trailhead
Allow 15 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 6 miles (9.6 km) south to the Randall Trailhead. Park in one of the large dirt pullouts on either side of the road.

Note: The sign for the Randall Trail is aligned parallel to Highway 1 on the east side of the road and can easily be missed.

Directions to Pacific Coast Science and Learning Center
Allow 15 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 6.1 miles (9.8 km) south to the driveway for the Pacific Coast Science and Learning Center.
  • Turn right and follow the driveway for 0.1 miles (0.2 km).

Directions to McCurdy Trailhead
Allow 20 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 8.3 miles (13.3 km) south to the McCurdy Trailhead. Park in one of the dirt pullouts on either side of the road.

Note: The sign for the McCurdy Trail is aligned parallel to Highway 1 on the east side of the road and can easily be missed.

Directions to Agate Beach County Park and Duxbury Reef
Allow 30 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 9.3 miles (14.9 km) south to the Olema-Bolinas Road. Note: There are no large signs for this intersection. If you end up with a large body of water or mudflats (Bolinas Lagoon) on your right, you missed the intersection.
  • Turn right and follow the Olema-Bolinas Road 1.3 miles (2.1 km) south to the junction with Horseshoe Hill Road.
  • Turn left and follow the Olema-Bolinas Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) south to Mesa Road.
  • Turn right and follow Mesa Road 0.7 miles (1.1 km) west to Overlook Drive.
  • Turn left and follow Overlooks Drive 0.5 miles (0.8 km) southto Elm Road.
  • Turn right and follow Elm Road 1 mile (1.6 km) east to the junction of Ocean Parkway.
  • The parking lot for Agate Beach County Park is ahead and to the left.

Directions to PRBO Palomarin Field Station
Allow 35 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 9.3 miles (14.9 km) south to the Olema-Bolinas Road. Note: There are no large signs for this intersection. If you end up with a large body of water or mudflats (Bolinas Lagoon) on your right, you missed the intersection.
  • Turn right and follow the Olema-Bolinas Road 1.3 miles (2.1 km) south to the junction with Horseshoe Hill Road.
  • Turn left and follow the Olema-Bolinas Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) south to Mesa Road.
  • Turn right and follow Mesa Road as it winds northwest 4.1 miles (6.6 km) to the PRBO Palomarin Field Station, which will be on the left side of the road. The last 0.75 miles (1.2 km) of this route is on an unpaved road.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 9.3 miles (14.9 km) south to the Olema-Bolinas Road. Note: There are no large signs for this intersection. If you end up with a large body of water or mudflats (Bolinas Lagoon) on your right, you missed the intersection.
  • Turn right and follow the Olema-Bolinas Road 1.3 miles (2.1 km) south to the junction with Horseshoe Hill Road.

Elephant seals at the main colony at Point Reyes  

Did You Know?
Northern elephant seals (Mirounga angustirostris) began breeding at Point Reyes in 1981 after being absent for over 150 years. The population breeds at terrestrial haul out sites at Point Reyes Headland, one of only eleven mainland breeding areas for northern elephant seals in the world.
