PROPERTY TAX RELIEF FOR NEW JERSEYANS
A provision which was originally introduced by Sen. Menendez in 2006 and included in the recently enacted Federal Housing Rescue and Foreclosure Prevention Act will provide additional tax relief to homeowners who do not itemize on their federal tax returns. The law allows single-filing property taxpayers to take an additional standard deduction of $500 and joint filers to deduct $1,000 for state and local property taxes paid.
