About Us
WE’RE THE COLLEGE BOARD
If you’re a student, parent, teacher or just about any education professional, chances are we’ve met. Maybe you know us from the SAT® or the AP® Program. It sounds incredible, but the fact is, every year we connect with more than seven million students and their parents. And then, of course, there are the 23,000 high schools and 3,800 colleges that we work with. We are a positive force in education.
WE’RE DEDICATED TO INSPIRING MINDS™
Inspiring minds is our business. It’s both the process and the product that emerge when advocates of higher learning work together to reach common goals.
Educators are our inspiration. They’re our heroes. And, as an organization, we want to help them further the kind of academic excellence that will prepare students for success at college and beyond.
WE’RE A MEMBERSHIP ORGANIZATION ON A MISSION
A nationwide culture of learning — and the educated public it produces — doesn’t come about by chance. These things exist because dedicated people are working hard to bring them about. That’s why we do what we do. Because we believe that, in the end, if we take care of education, then education will take care of the rest.
WE’RE DRIVEN BY OUR PRINCIPLES
We stand as an unwavering champion of both excellence and equity in education.
Stop for a second and think back to the best teacher you’ve ever had — that’s what we mean by excellence. We think that type of experience should be the rule, not the exception. And we think that every student deserves the chance to make that kind of connection.
WE DEFINE SUCCESS DIFFERENTLY
We’re a not-for-profit organization. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t strive for and achieve success. It just means that we define success differently. For us, when a young person discovers and realizes his or her own unique potential, that’s success. The way we see it, when a student succeeds, we all succeed.
WE BELIEVE INSPIRATION IS CONTAGIOUS
It can start anywhere. Maybe an inspired principal hires a progressive teacher. Then, the teacher’s innovative curriculum connects with a previously uninspired student. Sparked by the student’s progress and new attitude, a counselor gets involved; then an admissions officer, and perhaps a financial aid administrator. And before you know it, a young adult is on the way to a new future.
