At San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, volunteers work with riggers, shipwrights, engineers and others who are preserving not only the historic ships at Hyde Street Pier, but also the skills of the sea trades which are as unique in the modern world as the ships themselves.

Volunteers also assist in all aspects of the park's operation, including exhibit design and construction, interpretation and education, computer work, administration, graphic arts, welding, machining, steam engineering, sailing, music, and maintaining the library and historic documents.

To sign on as a volunteer, first read the volunteer opportunities listed below. For more information, email, or call the Volunteer Coordinator at 415-556-1613. The Volunteer Office is located on Hyde Street Pier.

Thanks for your interest in volunteering and in preserving the maritime heritage of the Pacific Coast! We are looking forward to working with you.

Balclutha at Hyde Street Pier.

Did You Know?
The 19th Century sailing ship Balclutha, moored at San Francisco Maritime NHP, carried tons of coal during her career. Coal from Wales and Australia provided fuel for the West Coast's railroads, steamships, factories, businesses and homes.
