The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
Other Federal Laws Prohibiting National Origin Discrimination in Employment
Besides Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, other federal laws, enforced by other
federal agencies, protect workers against
national origin discrimination under some circumstances.
- The Department of Justice's Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Unfair
Employment Practices enforces the Immigration Reform and Control Act, which
prohibits employers with between 4 and 14 employees from discriminating based on national origin in hiring or discharge.
- The Department of Labor's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP)
enforces Executive Order 11246, which
prohibits covered federal contractors and subcontractors from discriminating
on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin, and
requires affirmative action to ensure equal employment opportunity.
- The Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division coordinates enforcement of Title VI
of the Civil Rights Act of 1964,
which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national
origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance.
Inter-agency Coordination (Laws EEOC enforces jointly with other agencies)
