USGS Stations - McCarthy Road
Objectives
The objectives of this intensive water-quality study are to (1) determine the basic water quality
and biological characteristics of the streams and rivers along the McCarthy Road, (2) determine the
most important streams in terms of supporting aquatic habitat, (3) determine the water quality and
lake/stream interaction of several lakes along the McCarthy Road, and (4) as an outreach effort,
partner with the WRST to provide talks at the visitor center on the water quality and hydrology of
the streams and rivers along the McCarthy Road.
Relevance and Impact
This project will benefit the National Park Service by providing them sound scientific data that will
be used in the Environmental Impact Statement to protect streams and rivers that contain critical habitat.
The USGS, Water Resources Discipline, will gain a better understanding of the hydrology of streams and
rivers in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.
