Trans-NIH
Coordinating Committee for Non-Mammalian Models (CCNMM)
and Staff Contacts for Specific Model
Organisms
This committee was established in response to the recommendations of the Non-Mammalian Models (NMM) Workshop. Its function is to plan and coordinate the development of genomic resources for non-mammalian model organisms, using the recommendations of the NMM workshop as a starting point. For each model organism, a lead institute or center will be identified. The lead institute or center will appoint a contact person who will take responsibility for coordinating genomic resources for that organism and will be the channel of communication with the community.
The first task of the CCNMM will be to gather accurate data about what is already being done in terms of genomic resources for each organism, both by NIH and by other organizations world wide. Using this information and the recommendations of the NMM workshop, the CCNMM will then identify what the initial needs for each organism are. Once requirements are identified, the CCNMM will encourage the lead ICs to develop plans for meeting them in collaboration with other ICs and other organizations as appropriate. Community involvement in this process will be essential. Exactly what is done will be tailored to the needs of the organism community and the extent of NIH interest in that organism. The CCNMM will encourage the various communities to develop mechanisms for identifying, refining, and updating their own priorities at their annual meetings or other convenient venues.
In addition to coordinating the development of plans for each organism, the CCNMM will also deal with cross-cutting issues such as databases, stock centers, intellectual property, technology development, etc. The CCNMM will coordinate its work with that of other agencies as appropriate and will arrange meetings for feedback from the scientific community.
The CCNMM committee members and the contacts for the model organisms are listed below.
