New Report on Science for Hypoxia in Gulf of MexicoThe Mississippi River/Gulf of Mexico Watershed Nutrient Task Force (the Task Force) coordinates activities to reduce hypoxia in the northern Gulf of Mexico, to improve water quality conditions in the Mississippi River Basin, and to improve communities and economic conditions. The Task Force has released a new report, prepared by its Monitoring, Modeling, and Research Workgroup, which describes a framework for science activities that will support management decision-making. The Strategy describes the scientific information needed to answer key management questions and support management actions, and defines the scope, interrelation, and framework of the activities needed to provide that information. It describes existing programs and activities that contribute to the framework, and identifies gaps and limitations. The report includes information on environmental monitoring and modeling, and social and economic research for the northern Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi River Basin. USGS participates in the Task Force, and is co-chair of the Task Force Monitoring, Modeling, and Research Workgroup. The ReportMore Information is Available on:
