(Plano, Texas) A 29 year old California man has pled guilty to conspiracy to commit theft of trade secrets, U.S. Attorney Mike Bradford announced today. STEVEN CRAIG HALLSTEAD pled guilty before U.S. Magistrate Jude Robert Faulkner Wednesday afternoon.

According to court documents, Hallstead and an accomplice, Brian Russell Pringle, contacted Cyrix Corporation in early May offering to sell Intel Prototype "Slot II" units for a total of $75,000, and arranged for Pringle to deliver two of the prototype unites to Cyrix headquarters in Richardson, Texas on May 15, 1998. Pringle was arrested as he attempted to deliver the units, Hallstead was apprehended later. Pringle has entered a guilty plea to the same charge and is awaiting sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set for Hallstead. Hallstead could receive a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 or twice the financial loss to one other than the defendant.

The case has been investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Williams is prosecuting the case.
