AWIPS OB8.3 Training

In support of AWIPS Operational Build 8.3 (OB8.3), WDTB has released training:

1. Flash Flood Warning Decision Making Using FFMP-Advanced

1. Lesson1: Introduction (10 minutes)
2. Lesson2: New and Updated Functionality in FFMP-Advanced (30 minutes)
3. Lesson3: High-Resolution Precipitation Estimator (15 minutes)
4. Lesson4: Best practices with FFMP-A and Issuing Basin Based Flash Flood Warnings: (30 minutes)
5. Lesson 5: WES Case Exercise (30 minutes)

Target Audience: All NWS staff with warning-related responsibilities.

Description: After the training you will be able to:

• identify new data and functionality with the FFMP-Advanced in AWIPS OB8.3
• effectively incorporate FFMP-Advanced to diagnose flash flood potential at the basin level
• identify best practices for issuing basin-based flash flood warnings

2. AWIPS OB8.3 Four-Dimensional Stormcell Investigator (FSI)

Description: After the training you will be able to:

• identify significant changes in FSI8.3
• identify how to configure FSI for high resolution radar
• configure cursor readout
• optimize FSI for performance
• identify FSI strengths and limitations

3. AWIPS OB8.3 Integrated Radar Sampling and Improved Environmental Analysis

Description: At the end of this training you will be able to:

• incorporate new environmental cursor readout and plots into radar analysis
• incorporate the Popup SkewT into radar analysis
• dynamically link the Popup SkewT to horizontal model forecasts
• identify strengths and limitations of the new integrated radar sampling capabilities
