The VRA Core is a data standard for the description of works of visual culture as well as the images that document them. This site will host all VRA Core user support materials including FAQs, Cataloging Examples, and Presentations.  If you have Core-related tools or examples that you have developed and would like to share with the user community please contact the VRA Core Oversight Committee for posting to this site.

VRA Core 4.0 Implementation Registry Now Available - September 2011

As part of the feedback received from the Core survey there is now a VRA Core Implementation Registry available. The registry provides an opportunity for current and potential users to view publicly available implementations of the standard. VRA Core Survey Analysis Now Available - September 2011

An analysis of the VRA Core Survey which was conducted from February-March of 2010 is now available. This analysis gives insight into the needs of current and potential users of the VRA Core and will help guide its future direction.

VRA Core Schemas and Documentation Now Available from the Library of Congress - November 2010

The standard is now being hosted by the Network Development and MARC Standards Office of the Library of Congress (LC) in partnership with the Visual Resources Association External Link.    VRA Core’s schemas and documentation are now accessible at http://www.loc.gov/standards/vracore/.

VRA Core ListServ Now Available - November 2010

A new listserv has been created called The Core List (VRACORE@LOC.GOV).  The Core List (VRACORE@LOC.GOV) is an unmoderated computer forum open to members of the VRA Core development community. It is operated by the Library of Congress Network Development and MARC Standards Office. Users may subscribe by filling out the subscription form at the VRACORE Listserv site.

VRA Core Oversight Commitee Established - March 19, 2009

The Visual Resources Association has established the VRA Core Oversight Committee (Core OC) for the purpose of future development and sustainability of the VRA Core data standard and to support and promote its use in a variety of communities.  The Core OC will be chaired by Trish Rose-Sandler and will consist of three subcommittees including:  schema development and maintenance; user support; and training and education.  Any questions about this committee can be directed to vracore@vraweb.org.

METS Editorial Board Endorses VRA Core 4.0 Schema - November 7, 2007

The METS Editorial Board officially endorsed the VRA Core 4.0 Schemas (release version 4/9/07).  This endorsement confirms the VRA Core 4.0 schemas (both restricted and unrestricted) are in synch with nationally-recognized metadata standards and will work well as an extension schema for any METS objects that contain images of cultural heritage resources.
