Dave Moroney, Deputy Director,
NOAA Marine and Aviation Operations
On March 15, 2009, Captain Dave Moroney, U.S. Navy retired, reported to OMAO as its new Deputy Director. A native of Littleton, Colorado, Dave Moroney graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1979, earning a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, and a commission in the U.S. Navy. In 1984 he was selected to attend the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School (USNTPS), and was subsequently assigned to Strike Aircraft Test Directorate at Naval Air Test Center, Patuxent River, Maryland as a Test Naval Flight Officer. He was the second Navy pilot to flight test the F-14A+ Super Tomcat, and also served as project officer for various F-14 A-D avionics systems.
As a U.S. Navy Captain, Dave formerly served as Executive Director of Aircraft Operations for the Defense Contract Management Agency where he led a team of approximately 400 military and civilian personnel supporting the development, testing, production, maintenance and repair of aircraft procured by the Armed Services. In his over thirty-plus years with the Navy, Dave has held senior management positions with the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) and other program offices in the Navy, such as the Executive Director of Test and Evaluation Special Projects for NAVAIR. Dave also holds a Master of Science in Astronautical Engineering from the Navy Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
